The short version

Glint is a reading app. We don't collect personal information about you, we don't send your reading data anywhere, and we don't share or sell anything. The app runs on your device and minds its own business.

If you skip the rest of this document, the only things you actually need to know are:

  1. Glint does not require an account.
  2. Glint does not track you.
  3. Glint does not have a backend that watches you read.
  4. Books you import (PDFs, EPUBs, pasted text) stay on your device. We never see them.
  5. Your reading progress, settings, and stats live on your device.
  6. If you choose to use Apple Health integration, Glint writes Mindful Minutes to your Health app — write-only, we never read your Health data.
  7. Purchases are processed by Apple. Apple's privacy terms apply to the transaction; we receive only the receipt that confirms you paid.

What information Glint collects

Information you provide

Glint does not ask you for any personal information. There is no signup, no login, no email field, no profile.

If you contact us at support@glintreader.com with feedback or a support request, we receive whatever you put in that email. We use it to help you. We do not add your email to any list.

Information collected automatically

Glint does not collect personal information automatically. The app does not include third-party tracking SDKs, advertising identifiers, fingerprinting libraries, or analytics that identify individual users.

The app stores the following information on your device only, never transmitted to us:

  • Your reader settings (words-per-minute, theme, font size, rewind preferences, accessibility options)
  • Your reading progress per book (current word index, last-opened timestamp)
  • Your daily reading totals (words read today, current streak — local only, no leaderboards)
  • Books you import (PDFs, EPUBs, pasted text)
  • Books you've downloaded from the public-domain library
  • Your onboarding completion state and walkthrough progress
  • Your purchase status (whether Glint Reader Pass is unlocked on this Apple ID)

This information is stored using Apple's standard UserDefaults and an App Group container so the iPhone and Apple Watch apps can share it. It is never sent to a server we control.

Apple Health integration (optional)

If you choose to grant permission, Glint writes Mindful Minutes to your Apple Health record when you finish a reading session of at least 30 seconds. This is write-only — Glint cannot and does not read any data from your Health record.

You can revoke this permission at any time in Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Glint.

Apple Watch app

The Apple Watch app is a standalone reader: it ships with the bundled library of public-domain classics already on the watch, and you can read them with the phone in another room. When the watch and phone are paired and both apps are open, they exchange a small amount of data over Apple's WatchConnectivity framework, including:

  • Your current reading progress (so progress carries between devices)
  • Your daily reading goal status (for the daily ring)
  • Reading commands (play, pause) when one device is being used as a remote for the other

This communication happens directly between your devices via Apple's encrypted protocols. No data flows through us.

Purchases

If you purchase the one-time Glint Reader Pass lifetime upgrade, the transaction is processed by Apple's App Store using StoreKit. Apple sends us a receipt confirming the purchase. We do not receive your name, email address, payment method, or billing address from Apple. We use the receipt only to unlock Pro features on your devices.

Apple's privacy practices govern the transaction itself: apple.com/legal/privacy

Public-domain library

When you download a book from Glint's curated library, the app fetches the book text from Project Gutenberg (gutenberg.org) and the cover image from Open Library (openlibrary.org). These requests are made by your device, not by us. We do not log or track which books you download.

What Glint does NOT do

To remove any ambiguity:

  • Glint does not include third-party advertising SDKs.
  • Glint does not include cross-app or cross-website tracking.
  • Glint does not use the Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA).
  • Glint does not sell, rent, or share information about you with anyone.
  • Glint does not upload your imported documents (PDFs, EPUBs, pasted text) to any server.
  • Glint does not send your reading progress, reading speed, or reading habits to any server we control.
  • Glint does not require a network connection to read books you have already downloaded or imported.

Children's privacy

Glint is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with information through a support email, please contact us so we can delete it.

Your choices

  • Stop using Apple Health integration: Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Glint → turn off all categories.
  • Delete all your reading data: delete the Glint app from your iPhone. iOS will remove the app's data, including the App Group container shared with the Apple Watch app.
  • Restore Pro on a new device: in Glint, tap Settings → Restore Purchases. This uses Apple's StoreKit to confirm you previously purchased Pro on the same Apple ID.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the "Effective date" at the top. Material changes will be communicated in the app's release notes for the version that introduces them.
